In this interview with CalvinAyre.com’s Becky Liggero, 4D Gaming CEO Kyle Morris walks us through Down Under Blackjack—an innovative twist on the classic card game.
Without a doubt, blackjack has got to be the most popular table game in casinos—both online and offline—today. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that there are a lot of different variations of the classic card game.
Most common variations of the traditional Blackjack games involves changes to the rules and payouts. A lot of these variants may look quite similar to the original, but there are others that have little in common. But regardless of the mechanics of play and the conditions to win, players can always count on different types of blackjack for excitement and potential profits.
One new variant comes from, brace yourself, Down Under.
This game from 4D Gaming, called the Down Under Blackjack, puts an innovative twist to the traditional game. How? By letting players see the strength of the dealer’s hand before they decide how to play their own hand.
“So Down Under Blackjack, we don’t just show you what the dealer has up, we tell you if the whole card is small, medium or large for the players to decide how to play. So it changes the game quite a bit. A lot more interesting, fun situation for the player,” 4D Gaming CEO Kyle Morris told CalvinAyre.com.
How does it work? According to Morris, Down Under Blackjack rules requires the dealer to identify their hole card as small, medium or large (small=2,3,4 or 5, medium=6,7,8 or 9, large=10, J, Q, K or A) before the players place any bets so as to allow the players to make more informed decisions.
“Every time the dealer has a card, they’re going to check it with a card checker and then move it to the position that dedicates whether it’s a 2, 3, 4, or 5, 6 to 9, or 10 to ace. The Down Under Blackjack is played just like regular blackjack, but in the normal blackjack we would only know what the dealer has the face card up. In Down Under Blackjack, after the dealer checks, we move the card into one of these three designated boxes,” Morris said.
4D Gaming has plans to distribute the game to land based casinos and also online in the future.
“We’re releasing our table game version and our Down Under Blackjack app. It’s part of the World Class Casino… and it will be available to play online for cash hopefully sometime this year. The reception so far has been absolutely fantastic,” Morris said.
