Mike Sexton headlines WPT Montreal final table; GPL launches bracket contest

In today’s double barrel Lee Davy brings you the news that long-time World Poker Tour commentator Mike Sexton will be the chip leader at the final table of the WPT Montreal Main Event. And the Global Poker League prepare for the PlayOffs and Championships with a bracket contest.

Mike Sexton headlines WPT Montreal final table; GPL launches bracket contestA few years ago, when I was working at the Unibet Open in Malta, I was asked to do a spot of co-commentary?

It was a new experience for me, but I am a confident lad, and I was only the wingman, so I thought – why not?

As a colleague led me to the commentary booth, I noticed that there was no-one else in it.

“Where is the other guy?” I asked.

“What other guy?” Came the reply that made my balls dive into my stomach.

The World Poker Tour (WPT) Main Event in Montreal is about to encounter the same problem after Mike Sexton reached the final table as the overwhelming chip leader.

Sexton has sat in the main man’s commentary seat for the past 15 seasons, but by the time you have read this, he will be on the other side of the booth trying his utmost to become a WPT Champions Club member.

And it’s not the first time a member of the WPT commentary team has been in this position resulting in a last minute rush from the production team to find a replacement.

In Season XI, Sexton reached the final table of the WPT Venice Main Event finishing third behind Marcello Montagner and the eventual winner Rocco Palumbo. WPT Raw Deal Host, Tony Dunst, has made five final tables including winning WPT Caribbean last season.

So if you are in the Montreal area and want to appear on FOX Sports alongside Vince Van Patten, then there is a window of opportunity.

WPT Montreal Final Table Chip Counts

1. Mike Sexton – 6,215,000

2. Ema Zajmovic – 5,385,000

3. Benny Chen – 2,480,000

4. Ilan Boujenah – 2,290,000

5. Jake Schwartz – 1,550,000
6. Nadir Lalji – 1,520,000
