Former English footballer Michael Owen tells CalvinAyre.com’s Rebecca Liggero which team he believes will win Euro 2016.
Former football pro Michael Owen is betting on two teams to dominate Euro 2016—German and France.
“[The] world champions at the moment, which is Germany, they’re really strong. And obviously France, who’s hosting the tournament, they definitely got a good team. It’s going to be one of those two,” Owen told CalvinAyre.com.
Owens said a lot of teams have been qualified for the knockout stage. And the ex-English football star, of course, is punting that his home team will give the other guys a run for their money.
“I dearly love England… It’s probably not our strongest team going into a major tournament that we have had, but it’s a team that should be competitive and should give anyone a good game,” Owen said.
England may have a youthful squad, but the team has been building—hopefully on the valuable tournament lessons it got during the 2014 World Cup debacle.
“We’ve got some rising stars. We got a lot of Tottenham… Dele Alli has been performing really well. [Alli] together with Harry Kayne, who’s scoring a lot of goals, but Dele Alli looks [to be] a real, young prospect,” Owen said.
The 36-year-old, who received the Ballon d’Or in 2001 after helping Liverpool win a cup treble of the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and Football League Cup, is retired and enjoying his time as a football pundit with BT Sport and, most recently, as a brand ambassador for Colossus Bets.
“I’ve known Bernard Marantelli from Colossus Bets for a long time, and as soon as I heard him talk about the idea of what they’re setting up and they really intrigued me, and I always said that if and when he launched, then he was going to ask me to be the ambassador for it, so I was only too pleased,” Owen said. “It’s a great product. Everybody wants to win prizes, especially on things like the Football League. There’s an element of skill in it as well, so it’s a great brand and we are pleased with its progress and hope it can develop even further.”
