Unibet launches the UK Poker Tour and supplies research unit Sophro Ltd with crucial data on the online gambling habits of their customers in the aid of understanding the harm gambling can cause.
The UK live tournament scene is set to become very crowded after Unibet released plans to launch a five date poker tour in 2016.
The Swedish online gambling outfit has selected Caesars Entertainment as a partner, and will host tournaments at the Rendezvous in Brighton, Alea Casino in Nottingham, and Manchester 235 Casino in the city of the same name. The organisers must believe Brighton is so epic players need to visit twice.
“The UK poker scene is very close to our hearts, and we’re hoping to transfer some of the values of our flagship Unibet Open to this tour – namely a relaxed and fun atmosphere along with some memorable poker.” Said David Pomroy, Unibet Poker Marketing Manager.
The Unibet UK Poker Tour is the latest in a long line of tours focusing their attention on the working class. The new series will feature a £220 buy-in, £40,000 guaranteed Main Event, surrounded by a series of lower buy-in side events. The Genting Poker Series (GPS), partypoker Grand Prix and the Grosvenor 25/25 Series all meet this criterion. Each festival will last a week. Both the winner of the Main Event and the online qualifier lasting the longest will win seats in their flagship €2,200 Unibet Open Main Event.

Unibet to Assist Sophro Research in Gambling Harm Study
Unibet proves that transparency holds no fear after agreeing to provide industry data to Sophro Ltd that will enable them to investigate the causes of harm in online gambling. The UK’s Responsible Gambling Trust (RGT), a charity created to help minimise gambling-related harm, handed the contract to Sophro Ltd., and will be delighted with Unibet’s aid.
The data will come from all of Unibet’s products including poker, casino and sports betting. According to the scribes at Pokerfuse, Sophro intend to use the data to dig into the minutiae to get a ‘better insight into the behavioural processes behind problem gambling.’
The report is due out in the Fall of 2016.
