Alexey Evchenko: Gambling legalization in Ukraine to benefit tourism industry

Alexey Evchenko: Gambling legalization in Ukraine to benefit tourism industryUkraine tourism adviser Alexey Evchenko will take the stage at the Ukrainian Gaming Congress, to discuss the expectations of the tourism industry from the legalization of casinos in the country.

Evchenko, adviser at the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, becomes one of the speaker at Ukrainian Gaming Congress, which will be held on September 29.

Evchenko will tackle the structure of the Ukrainian gaming industry after its legalization, expectations from the new law, and its effect on the tourist image of the country. In particular, Evchenko will cover the possibility to attract tourists and players to Ukraine from all over the world and factors that can repackage the image of the country, as well as the chance to turn the country into an interesting investment project in the terms of gambling and other sectors.

In his interview posted on Ukranian Gaming Congress website, Evchenko pointed the fact that the legalization of gambling across the country will ensure the flow of a certain category of tourists who visited the Ukrainian gambling establishments before their prohibition in 2009.

According to Evchenko, since the provisions being prescribed in the draft law, such as a requirement to locate casinos in 4-5 star hotels and the possibility of permission to open casinos in separate buildings outside the hotels, are not final, it is still difficult to predict the amount of income to the budget of Ukraine from gambling, adding that everything depends on the taxation schemes and licensing. These factors will affect the number of casinos that will open during the first year after the legalization of casinos and, consequently, the amount of tax revenue for the period.

Ukrainian Gaming Congress is a platform that will bring together authorities and gambling industry representatives to discuss possibilities of industry revival in Ukraine. The event is expected to bring together representatives of public authorities, gambling zones, investors, owners of betting programs, participants of hotel and tourism industry, foreign casino chains, experts and lawyers to review the prospects for resumption of gambling business in Ukraine and to submit proposals and business ideas to authorities of the country.
