The World Poker Tour Foundation and Pala Casino Resort & Spa has joined forces to create a special $1,100 buy-in event with a $100,000 Guarantee in aid of the Special Olympics Southern California charity.
Poker’s involvement in charitable endeavors continues to rip across the community like a rocketing slug fresh from the barrel as the World Poker Tour (WPT) Foundation and Pala Casino Resort & Spa team up to create further hope for the children of the Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) charity.
The WPT will headline a one of a kind $1,100 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event where 10% of each buy-in will go towards the SOSC charity. To make the tournament a little more palatable for the paying public, a $100,000 guarantee has been painted onto the tin.
The event will form part of the Pala Poker Open. Scheduled to take place 4-13 Sep it promises to accommodate players of all buy-in capabilities. The aforementioned charity event will start on Sep 11, following on from an exclusive WPT Foundation party held on Sep 10th.
“Special Olympics Southern California is honored to be the beneficiary of the WPT Foundation Pala Poker Open Main Event.” Said Bill Shunard, President & CEO of SOSC.
SOSC was created to enrich the lives of more than 19,000 men, women and children through Californian that suffer with intellectual disabilities by providing them with the opportunity to participate in Olympic type sporting events.
“Special Olympics gives us self-esteem. It taught me about myself and how I can accomplish my dreams.” Said Michelle Core, Special Olympics Athlete
The WPT Foundation was formed in March 2012 and has since raised more than $4m for a number of charitable partners. High profile events include the recent “All In” for Kids Charity Poker Tournament that raised close to $1m for The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and their continued support of the Tiger Woods Foundation: together they raised $1m in their recent 2015 Tiger Jam.
Mike Sexton, Vince Van Patten and Lynn Gilmartin will be in attendance at the Pala Casino charity event.
