Calvin Ng of 21Pink on Western Product into China's mobile market

Angelia Ong talks to 21Pink cofounder Calvin Ng as he discusses China’s mobile market.

Shanghai-based 21Pink was founded in 2013 by Poker sharks, Computer Whiz’s and 4 Leaf Clover owners, becoming the first in the world to have live dealers for social casino.

Ng discussed the challenges in introducing a Western product to China’s mobile market, saying that Western brands need to localized and understand the Chinese culture.

“Chinese market is a very, very complicated market. You have a lot of payment system, a lot of Application program interface (API) , different lock-ins that you really need to connect with,” said Ng. “In short, if you want to come in to China, you are going to entire Europe. You have to understand that each prvince in China is like one country in Europe.”

China’s online gaming market exceeded 30b yuan for the first time and reached 32.08b yuan in Q1 2015, an increase of 8% QoQ with 24.7% growth year on year. 2015 will be a year full of opportunities and challenges for China mobile gaming market, with female mobile gaming users still have much potential and their habit of paying for games is expected to develop.
