The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel has become the first casino in Las Vegas to put a bitcoin ATM machine inside its casino through its partnership with Robocoin, allowing users to buy or sell the currency inside the D.
Months earlier, the D became the first casino to accept bitcoin payments for purchases on retail, dining, and hotel stay options, but it still can’t accept bitcoin payments for any of their casino offerings.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board would have to approve the use of bitcoin for gambling purposes; unfortunately, that isn’t likely to happen anytime soon, says Robocin CTO Sam Glaser. Still, having a bitcoin ATM inside a casino goes a long way in validating the cryptocurrency as an accepted method of payment.
“We’re launching in the highly regulated state of Nevada,” Robocoin CEO Jordan Kelly said in a statement. “These are all signs of bitcoin maturity and institutional acceptance.”
The D is a mere block away from Robocoin’s headquarters and Kelly said the company “couldn’t be happier to install Robocoin in our hometown and the D is a perfect fit.”
