Super Bowl XLVIII Prop Bets Part 2

temporary-casino-at-the-meadowlands-for-superbowl-48The beauty of prop bets during an event like the Super Bowl is the variety of choices you can pick from.  Be it something related to the game or something involving the pageantry surrounding the game, there’s plenty of choices for everybody.

In the first part of our Super Bowl XLVIII props preview, we pretty much focused on props that were directly related to the game, the ones that, by and large, will be decided by the players on that field, be it before, during, and after the game.

This time around, though, we’re mixing it up a little bit by previewing some interesting prop bets that bettors can enjoy outside of the actual game between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks.

Typically, every Super Bowl comes with prop bets involving the national anthem, the half time show, and yes, even those damn Gatorade showers when the team on the verge of winning the game dumps the entire gallon of Gatorade on the unsuspecting coach. Those props are fine and all, but they’re not unique to this Super Bowl.

The unique prop bets for this Super Bowl are those involving the weather and yes, there are a number of them being offered specifically for this quirk. One such prop is an answer to the question on whether it will snow during the game. “Yes” has 3/1 odds while “No” has 1/5 odds.

How about what the temperature is going to be at kick-off? Care to venture a bet on an over/under of 34 degrees Fahrenheit? If you want to prolong your chances, you can skip that one and opt for the prop on what the lowest temperature will be during the game with the same 34 degrees Fahrenheit O/U.

One other prop that has gained some mainstream traction in the lead up to the game involves Broncos tailback Knowshon Moreno. After being spotted on live TV crying at the National Anthem during the season, a prop on whether he was going to cry on the National Anthem during the Super Bowl had to be made. And yes, there is one with a “Yes” getting 4/1 odds and a “No” getting 1/7 odds.

The announcers, in this case Fox’s Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, have also become integral parts of prop bets in large part because TV viewers only hear those two voices during the entire telecast with the occasional sideline reporting from Pam Oliver and Erin Andrews.

This year, words and phrases like “12th man”, “Beast Mode”, and “marijuana” have props linked to them. The first two involves the number of times the announcers say those phrases during the game. Both have an over/under of 2.5 so it should be easy to at least take the over on one of them, right?

“Marijuana”, though, is different, in large part because of the oddity that both teams playing the game – the Broncos and the Seahawks – are from the only two states that have legalized recreational use of weed. So the question begs: how many times will the announcers say the word “marijuana”?

11/2 odds on a “yes” and 1/9 odds on a “no”.

Finally, TV viewership props are also pretty popular, including what the average viewers the game will have. Over/Under is at 112 million viewers. Also, which region is going to have the higher local TV rating? Seattle is at 5/7 and Denver is at even odds.
