WSOP 2013 Final Table: Mark Newhouse hits the rail at 9th place

dealers-choice-2013-wsop-main-event-predictions-sideThe WSOP Main Event Final Table will always have that first player to bust out and this year, that distinction fell to Mark Newhouse.

As the short stack of the group, the pressure was on Newhouse to make a bold move in an attempt to stay in the competition. At Hand 36 of the Final Table, the American saw his opening after being dealt pocket 9s (9c9s). From the hijack seat, Newhouse wasted little time pushing all-in. It was a bold move but necessary move for the short-stacked player and with Ryan Riess calling from the cutoff with AsKh, it set up a potential double-up Newhouse to stay in the mix.

Then the flop turned up and a Kd showed up, together with a 7s10c. The 7c on the turn didn’t help Newhouse’s cause and neither did the 6d on the river. And just like that, Newhouse’s bid to win the WSOP Main Event went up in smoke, fitting considering that the event was being held a the Penn & Teller theater.

But hey, he did get up $733,224 heavier on the pockets, which by all standards, is a good day at the poker tables.

It’s down to the eight players, people!
