It wasn’t as vicious a knockout as the one Juan Manuel Marquez planted on Manny Pacquiao, but Viktor “Isildur1” Blom once again got the best of his rival, Tom “durrr” Dwan, in their highly anticipated heads-up duel yesterday. Unlike the Pacquiao – Marquez fight though, this one appeared to be a one-sided deal with Blom needing only less than three hours to wipe Dwan clean.
The heads-up battle came together pretty quickly after Blom issued the challenge last week via Twitter only to met by a swift response from Dwan and Full Tilt Poker, the latter of which setting up the showdown on their site. The initial stake talked about was for both players to put $100,000 on the line spread across four $100/$200 No Limit Hold’em tables. But late negotiations were made and both players ended up shelling out $200,000 each.
In the end, though, the action between the two spread into six different tables yet it still didn’t matter for Dwan as his rival seemed to just have the upper hand throughout the day, including wins of around $104,000 on one table and $71,000 on another table. After two-and-a-half hours and 1,381 hands, Dwan’s rough night mercifully ended after Blom took out the remaining $3,500 he had on his side of the table. With Dwan holding pocket Tens, an all-in push was the automatic call, except that “Isildur1” still managed to take home a pot after calling with an Ac3c only to see the board turn Qs-8c-6d-Ah-6s, giving the Blom the win and, more importantly, even more bragging rights against his rival.
Tough going out there for Tom Dwan. We’ve no doubts that he can back bounce back from this like he always does. But for today, he was on the wrong side of the table. Hey, at least he didn’t get knocked out for a loop like the other guy headlining that boxing event at the MGM Grand.
