EuropasAfter winning the Best Exit award in 2010, Betfair made a return to the technology start up scene last week by supporting the Europas. That’s the European Tech Startup Awards if you happen to be out of the loop.

Run by TechCrunch Europe, the awards seek to reward tech start ups from a wide variety of sectors, as well as recognise some of the successful development and exits from more established technology companies.

Held at the Carbon Bar in the West End, this year’s ceremony saw Betfair sponsor the Best Sport, Leisure and Health start up award. According to the Betfair website, the event was “full of energy and the audience was a real mix of entrepreneurs, start ups, venture capital and technology trade associations.”

Betfair attendees; ranging from Technology, through to M&A and Communications, were present on the night. Phil Dixon presented their sponsored category award to Endomondo, a website that turns your mobile phone into a GPS tracker to support personal exercise programmes.

The most notable ‘Grand Prix’ award went to Peer Index, and the Best Exit award this year went to Lovefilm, which was acquired by Amazon in January for $312m.

Betfair’s website reports: “The awards were great fun and Betfair was among a prestigious group of sponsors who are at the heart of the UK technology scene.

“As a start up ourselves just 10 years ago we know the journey some of these companies are going through and it was great to be able to see and meet some of the exciting talent out there.”
