Unibet has received the honor of being invited to preside over today’s Nasdaq closing bell ceremony at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York’s Time Square. In honour of the occasion, Unibet CEO Henrik Tjarnstrom was scheduled to ring the closing bell between 3:45 and 4:00pm Eastern Time later today.
It’s interesting that Unibet follows in the footsteps of Swedish rivals Betsson and Net Entertainment who were also extended the honor of ringing the closing bell on the second-largest stock exchange by market capitalization in the world, after the New York Stock Exchange.
It’s interesting, yet strange at the same time, considering America’s stance of international online gaming operators.
Betsson CEO Pontus Lindwall became the first executive from an online gaming company to preside over the ceremony, ringing the market closing bell on May 27th 2009. He was followed by an appearance in August 2009 by Net Entertainment CEO Johan Öhman who took part take in the opening bell ceremony to commemorate the company’s listing on the NASDAQ OMX Exchange in Stockholm.
