Mueller wins cashless Pro Am

Epic Poker League LogoGreg Mueller just won the Epic Poker League Pro/Am but his wallet isn’t exactly splitting with the spoils of his hard fought victory.
Instead of a cash prize, Mueller pretty much got a pat on the back and free pass for tomorrow.

Basically, the Pro/Am event is held before each Main Event of the Epic Poker League with the sole purpose of awarding a $20,000 Main Event seat to each of the top nine finishers. Any prize money left is distributed based on the tournament’s payout schedule.

I’m guessing a tournament that may not payout wasn’t too attractive to many players as only 97 players chose to participate, meaning that there wasn’t enough of a prize pool to cover the $180,000 worth of Main Events seats that were guaranteed. In effect, the EPL still awarded the nine Main Event seats, but there was no extra prize money to distribute.

So basically, the only thing Mueller has to show for his victory was his buy-in for tomorrow’s second Epic Poker League Main Event. $20K isn’t chump change, but it’s not exactly something to write home about.

The other nine players joining Mueller tomorrow at the second Epic Poker League Main Event at the Palms Resort Casino include: Hoivold, Hellmuth, Getzwiller, Nam Le, Russell Rosenblum, Brandon Meyers, Jeremy Ausmus and Michael DiVita.
