The World Poker Tour’s (WPT) first foray into Ireland now has a sponsor to boot after a deal was announced with PKR. Ireland’s first ever WPT event takes place at the City West Hotel in Dublin from January 5-8 2012 and will be sponsored by PKR for the next three years.
Upon the deal being signed, Simon Prodger, Marketing Director of PKR, said, “We are delighted to partner with the World Poker Tour to bring an event to Ireland for the very first time. Dublin will be a fantastic tour stop and we think the combination of high quality poker and the Irish spirit of fun will draw players from all over the world.”
The main event has a buy-in of €2,500 and the event also incorporates the Irish Poker Championships, including its €750 main event.
Global Poker Tours Limited (GPTL), the company that produces the European Poker Tour (EPT), announced their third major sponsorship deal, as Skrill (formerly Moneybookers) becomes the Official Payment Provider Sponsor of the EPT.
Nikolai Riesenkampff, co-CEO of Skrill Holdings, operating Moneybookers, said: “Skrill is delighted to join the European Poker Tour as its Official Payment Provider Sponsor. Now in its eighth season, the EPT has grown to become one of the largest and most lucrative poker tours in the world. Our headline sponsorship promises to deal a winning hand when it comes to strengthening our position as the leading digital wallet and bankroll management option among the world’s poker players.”
The agreement will mean Skrill holding a strong visual presence at all EPT events as well as helping players to register new accounts. It comes only a few months after the payment processor abandoned its IPO thanks to the poor performance of other publicly traded gaming industry firms.
