Android is not as cool as iPhone

android-not-coolAs far as the new raft of smart phones that have been invading the mass mobile phone market for the past few years are concerned it’s all about three separate device operating systems leading the market.

In overtaking Nokia’s Symbian as the number one system world wide, Android is currently experiencing unprecedented growth but as someone that owns one running the software you can’t help but think it’s not the coolest device.

The cool rating of the phones is something that has been recognised at the Mobile World Congress by someone that is at the forefront of development for a phone that includes direct Facebook integration. Instead of using it to promote his own device he’s said what everyone else was thinking all along – Android just isn’t that cool.

Frank Meehan, founder and CEO of INQ, told Mashable, “If you go to a nightclub in any city in the world, the pretty girl has an iPhone or a BlackBerry. She doesn’t have an Android phone. She has no emotional attachment to an Android phone. It’s too complicated. It’s a geek device, it’s all wrong.”

It doesn’t mean that companies, in the gambling industry especially, aren’t falling over themselves to develop apps for Android phones, such is the global reach of the devices. Until they start to see a drop in sales, it’s unlikely the clamour for Android will stop.

Although anyone who has followed the technology industry over the past 30 years or so will know that once upon a time it really wasn’t at all cool to own an Apple Macintosh, and nowadays anything adorning the logo is the must have accessory for the nouveau cool.

As for INQ phones…my mother has one Frank. That’s how cool your phones are!
