Betsson has signed an agreement with G.Matica, an Italian IT services company, to form a joint venture in an attempt to capture market share and captalize on the online gaming opportunities in the Italian market.
G.Matica already operates the Gbet.it website which is currently licensed to offer sports betting and tournament poker in Italy. There’s definitely online gambling opportunities to be exploited in the Italian market. Italian regulator AAMS released figures earlier this month showing that turnover from the Italian online market grew by 28% last year to €4.8bn.
This growth took place despite there being a limited games offering. Swedish operator Betsson and G.Matica are surely expecting that figure to increase significantly with more comprehensive offerings, including; online casino games and cash poker. Both G.Matica and Betsson expect to be generating profit from Q2 moving forward.
“With this Italian B2B-deal, Betsson is taking an important step in the new regulated European environment,” said Pontus Lindwall, CEO of Betsson AB. “Betsson views the Italian market as a good jurisdiction to operate within from a local licensing perspective. Our partner has a solid background in IT and gaming, as well as local knowledge of the Italian market, and Betsson contributes with valuable gaming know how and operations, which together will be a great foundation for success on the market”.
