If there’s a footballer that is more smug than Lord, Saint, [insert noteworthy title] David Beckham of every shire in the whole of England, then he should make himself known. If the Knighthood eluded him this time, you’ll be sure that he won’t be far from the top of the list if gis work continues in earnest. Who know, he may lift the World Cup as manager in a another decade’s time. Maybe that thinking’s a tad too wishful, but a return to the Premier League might not be out of the question.
It’s impossible not to have some kind of man-love going on for Becks, and watching him walking forward to collect his lifetime achievement award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year was one of the highlights of a dour footballing year for many an England fan. But, what of him coming over to the Premier League?
Betfred spokesman Jon Wilde said: “Beckham may well be in demand from a host of English teams, but we consider it unlikely he will spend the winter here having recently re-iterated he would only want to wear the Manchester United shirt.”
Well at least he’ll play for one club, although whether Sir Alex Ferguson will have him back is another matter entirely
