Betsson hadn’t been having the best of times in the gambling industry in the months leading up to December. Now though, after a rather fruitful festive period, they’ve decided that the best course of action against the Swedish government is to come out all guns blazing with their middle fingers held very high indeed.
Back in September we saw that the Swedish government had yet again forced the company to shut down their iconic retail premises in Stockholm, but they’ve stayed true to their beliefs and opened for a third time.
In September, the Supreme Administrative Court refused leave to appeal and refrained from making a reference for a preliminary ruling from the European Court of Justice, meaning it was forced to close the shop. This time they’ve been allowed to open as long as there are no logos or symbols relating to Betsson, after a ruling made in 2008 by the Gaming Board.
“Since it is legal to offer gaming services to Betsson’s customers, we will continue fighting for the Swedish consumer’s right to a free choice of games which should be given “said Pontus Lindwall, CEO Betsson.
The shop has opened at Götgatan 37 in Stockholm, and it will surely only be a matter of time until it gets shut-down-again-sson.
