The Mediterranean Poker Cup took place in Cyprus this past weekend, and Alexsandr Dovzhenko beat out 152 other players to claim the €104.7k prize. The Ukrainian defeated Russian Gutkin Maksim, who settled for €70.7k. Austria’s Peter Staudacher took third and €46k. Next up for the region is the Red Sea Poker Cup in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, which runs from Dec. 11-16, and features a €1,100 buy-in main event and a €3,300 VIP event.
One thing the Red Sea folks don’t concern themselves with is the threat of massive snowfall, but the same can’t be said for organizers of the UK Ireland Poker Tour. The UKIPT Season 2 kickoff in Galway was supposed to get underway on Thursday, but the region has been hit with a massive snowstorm, causing airport delays and a tendency to view roadside ditches as parking lots. Play is now scheduled to start on Friday.
Snow is of no concern to online tournament organizers, unless an avalanche strikes the building that houses their servers. As such, players had no difficulty making it to the venue for the PokerStars USA Championship of Online Poker. John ‘trainwrecks’ Hayes is $140,743 richer after besting the Main Event’s 1,650 entrants, but surprisingly, nine of the USA COOP’s 11 events fell short of their guarantees, resulting in a total $764,650 overlay.
Finally, leave it to a woman to do things a little differently. While all the other poker pros are hell bent on hocking their gold WSOP bracelets on eBay, Vanessa Rousso has opted to sell something yellow instead. The item up for sale (not auction) is a yellow 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo. Rousso purchased the vehicle just last year, but apparently she’s a fickle filly and already has her eye on a sweeter ride. Rousso is the third owner of the vehicle, but it has only logged 12,875 miles, so if you have a spare $126,500 burning a hole in your pocket, head on over to eBay and kick the virtual tires.
