Private Woods joins Twitter

tiger-woods-twitterGolf has gone from strength-to-strength in our eyes this last year or so. Not only did Tiger Woods show himself to be the normal guy on the street that everyone had privately hoped, the Ryder Cup lived up to expectations, and Graeme McDowell admitted that he enjoys gamblin’ drinkin’ and carryin’ on. The latest to come out of the Woods camp is hardly a surprise though.

Yesterday Woods became the latest sports star to enable his computer to be turned into a 140-character churning out machine of destruction after he joined the social networking site Twitter. We’ve already seen various gaffes from sportsmen, such as Kevin Pietersen, so far this year.

Woods was inundated with 30,000 followers within the hour and has teased us with such musings as “Yep, it’s me. I think I like this twitter thing. You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the love,” and my personal favourite “The best part about phone interviews is getting to wear shorts.”

This last Tweet seems to suggest that Woods may well be about to launch a career on the stand-up comedy circuit. Forgive me for being churlish, but he’ll have a cartload of material after everything he’s been through this year.
