Anyone outside of the Commonwealth who haven’t heard that Delhi was the ill-fated venue of the 2010 Commonwealth Games must have had their head stuck in a rather large book for the last couple of weeks. It seems since the athletes and media have started to descend on the Indian city they haven’t warmed to the “authentic” experience that Commonwealth officials had encouraged when awarding the games to the Indian capital – situating the city’s zoo and athlete’s village at the same location may have been a bit too far.
Although, as the athletes settle into their rooms complete with free complementary pet dog to collect the paper each day, William Hill are cashing in on the punter’s relentless pursuit of being able to bet on pretty much anything they please.
The British bookmaker had to cut the odds that the games would start on time from 5/1 to 3/1 as a bridge collapsed last week, and you can even get 2/1 on one of the four nations making up the UK not attending.
Punters who plumped for these odds may well be disappointed early next week as hygiene has magically improved over the weekend, but we still wait for some special novelty odds from Paddy Power to pop up sooner or later. With a free dog for every competitor, how about some odds on an athlete who gets “injured” on a night out, and sends the dog to take part on their behalf.
