Zynga claims it adds 1,000 servers every week to handle traffic flow

Zynga-Servers-TrafficHow popular is game developer Zynga? The makers of Farmville, Mafia Wars and other social networking games claims it adds up to 1,000 servers each and every week to handle all those wannabe hayseeds looking to water their stupid fake crops. On Wednesday, company CTO Cadir Lee told Oracle’s Open World conference that 10% of the world’s internet population has played a Zynga game. Not bad for a company founded just three short years ago. (What were you doing three years ago? Uh-huh… And where are you now? Sorry, that was cruel.)

No doubt spurred on by the prediction that Zynga’s Texas HoldEm Poker game might one day rule the online poker world, the game developer now funnels a petabyte of data through all those shiny new servers each and every day. For those who don’t know, a petabyte is one thousand terabytes, which is one thousand gigabytes, which is… Actually, this is probably easier; think of it as the sum of every single JPEG of Pamela Anderson in the buff that has ever been uploaded in the history of the internet. Okay, we actually have no idea how much data that would be, just that the concept is kinda cool…
