Don’t mention the war. Or ‘the gays’, for that matter. Before this year’s World Cup even kicked off, Michael Becker (German footballer Michael Ballack’s agent) apparently complained to a writer from Der Spiegel that the German team was rife with gay players, plus one who was ‘half gay’, whatever that means. Understandably, the comments have kicked off something of a controversy in Germany, but perhaps they’re on to something — if having only some gay players on the team got them third place in 2010, a completely gay team will surely have them hoisting the trophy in 2014!
