Bookmakers are often perceived as heartless vultures, quick to prey on unsuspecting passers-by with alluring offers and get-rich quick schemes. Fact is they provide a service we are all of us glad to patronise – those of us who don’t live in fascist countries that don’t permit gambling that is.
