The UIGEA blues: overblocking saddens blues musicians

The South Florida Blues Society, which had the audacity to sell raffle tickets over its website for the last decade, has had all its internet transactions (including t-shirt sales and membership dues) blocked by PayPal, as the payment processor prepares for implementation of the onerous UIGEA restrictions. The SFBS’s dilemma is symptomatic of the driftnet approach financial institutions are being forced to adopt in order to comply with the UIGEA’s broad definitions as to what constitutes illegal gambling.
