Betclic leaves Portugal; Belgium adds 10 to black list; Betfair sponsors backgammon tour

betclic belgium betfairBetclic Everest Group has ceased all operations in Portugal after losing a prominent court case. The firm confirmed to Publico it would be pulling out after a court had ruled in favor of the gambling monopoly Santa Casa di Misericórdia de Lisboa. That case means Betclic is now susceptible to a $50,000 fine for each breach of the country’s iGaming industry regulations. The news also sees the end of a large number of sponsorship deals the company signed with football, basketball, handball, futsal and hockey teams.

Belgium has added another 10 sites to its controversial iGaming industry blacklist. It takes the amount of sites banned to 20 and at the same time they approved another two sites to the white list. Winamax now joins 888, Everest Poker, Titan Poker and Chiligaming on the blacklist with the latter hoping to be removed after banning Belgian customers. The new additions are as follows:

Betfair has signed a deal to become the official sponsor of the European Backgammon Tour. The “oldest game on the planet” takes in six stops and will have Betfair by its side for the entire tour. Online qualifiers will run on Betfair for every stop and the 16 player grand final will attract a prize pool of €20,000. The dates announced so far are:

25 – 29 April: European Pro Championships & European Doubles Championships

26 – 29 July: German Backgammon Masters, Munich, Germany

23 – 26 August: Portuguese Open, Carcavelos, Lisbon, Portugal

14 – 16 September: Istanbul Open, Istanbul, Turkey (Buy- in plus €150 spending money)
