Jonathan Duhamel injured in home invasion; Mayweather gets 90 days in jail

duhamel-injured-mayweather-sentencedJonathan Duhamel, 2010 World Series of Poker main event champion, is recovering after a home invasion at his house in Boucherville, Quebec (near Montreal) on Wednesday morning. The Canadian Press quoted Duhamel’s agent Yves Bouchard as confirming local police accounts that two men apparently rang Duhamel’s doorbell, then forced their way inside when the poker player opened the door. Duhamel was roughed up by the men, but was able to call 911 after they fled. Duhamel was treated in hospital for minor injuries as a result of the attack and has since been released. It’s not known whether Duhamel’s poker fame led to him being specifically targeted by the robbers, but police are investigating.

While police investigate Duhamel’s assault, the case has been closed on boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. After agreeing to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery and no contest to two charges of harassment for a 2010 domestic violence incident involving his baby mama Josie Harris and the couple’s three children, Mayweather was sentenced on Wednesday to 87 days in the Clark County, Nevada jail (actually 180 days, but 90 were suspended and Mayweather was given credit for three days served). Mayweather was also ordered to complete 100 hours of community service and a 12-month domestic violence program, and fined $2,500. It’s not yet clear whether Mayweather intends to appeal the sentence.

Mayweather was ordered to turn himself in on Jan. 6 to start serving his stint in the slammer, which, if there’s any justice, will be full of vengeful Fillipinos. The much-anticipated fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, which looked like it might finally happen in May, will have to be (at best) postponed or (more likely) cancelled as a result of Mayweather’s incarceration. Neither boxer’s camp was saying much after the sentence. For once…
