poker-newsEurope’s largest poker festival will be returning to the centre of the iGaming universe for the fifth year in a row. Poker in the Park V is taking place in London from 2nd-3rd September but Leicester Square will not have poker awaiting you upon your arrival. Instead, this year’s venue is even more central: within spitting distance of Oxford Circus to be in exact. Hanover Square will see plenty of new features as well.

For the first time in the event’s history there will be a Main Stage playing host to a number of acts and the second annual British Poker Awards. This is in addition to the live Sit n’ Go’s, lectures from some of the world’s top players, live tuition, signings, merchandise and a lot more. The event also sees the return of two poker domes that will have tournaments going round the clock. Last year 20,000 fans flocked for poker-related frolics and a guy who got his ear bitten off by Mike Tyson. For more information visit Poker in the Park.

Also in the world of poker, Federated Sports and Gaming has launched the Global Poker Index (GPI). The system will track the performance of the world’s top 300 tournament players on a weekly basis.

“This system is revolutionary for poker and will provide a clear-cut, statistically definitive means for comparing the live tournament accomplishments of top players,” said Annie Duke, commissioner of the Epic Poker League. “Many of the world’s best players are not well known outside of the avid fan base. The Global Poker Index will not only create excitement around the rankings of the more established players, but will also put a focus on a new generation of young players.”

It’s all a big part of the Epic Poker League that kicks off this year.
