The Story
MGM Resorts International continues to get rid of a handful of its properties to various takers as the Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) has just approved the sale of Circus Circus to Phil Ruffin. The billionaire owner of the Treasure Island hotel and casino sees Circus Circus as an additional anchor for his portfolio and is also picking up the Las Vegas Festival grounds. The deal, which will direct $825 million into MGM’s pockets, will see Ruffin hand over $662.5 million in cash and MGM floating a note worth $162.5 million, which will be due on 2024. In retrospect, the property cost $15 million to build in 1968 and would be worth $110.8 million by today’s standards.
