Third quarter numbers of Genting Singapore indicate that the country’s gambling industry could be facing tougher times ahead.

The Story
A recent filing of Genting Singapore has become a cause of concern for analysts. The company reported a decrease in net profit for the third quarter, a 24% decline over the same period last year. Leading investment banking firm Affin Hwang Capital said Genting’s struggle is caused by a number of factors such as 50% increase on gambling taxes and a fall in its mass market GGR by 10% year-on-year to SG$334 million ($245 million). If Genting Singapore’s numbers are a reflection of the country’s gambling industry, the future does not look bright now.
