Members of Parliament have informed the House of Commons that the government will hold a consultation regarding the proposal to raise the minimum age for lottery purchases from 16 to 18. Minister for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Mims Davies said they are mulling three possible outcomes: (a) maintaining the status quo, (b) raising the age limit to 18 for certain products; or (c) limiting all lottery products to customers aged 18 years or older. The government’s plan to limit lottery tickets to 18-year-old buyers will likely hurt national lottery operator Camelot as its traditional lottery draw ticket sales are on the decline.
