The Story

UK-listed gambling firm GVC Holdings PLC scored an 8% growth in its net gaming revenue for the first half of 2018 thanks in part to the World Cup 2018 bettors.

The fair weather also helped.

Data showed that GVC’s online business saw a 20% growth on a constant currency basis during the six-month period. Revenue of the company’s UK retail shops fell 3%, which GVC said could have been much worse if bad weather deterred their patrons from gambling. The company’s European retail posted a 26% increase in net gaming revenue, bolstered by World Cup betting.
