The Story

Online gambling operator Bet365 is set to move its operations to Malta from Gibraltar once the UK formally exits from the European Union next year, the Times of Malta reported.

Gibraltar will be hit hard by Bet365's relocation.

The privately held company reportedly signed a promise of sale agreement on “a large part of a new property development” in the Tigné region of Sliema, costing €70m. The relocation, which has been in the pipeline since 2014 after Bet365 obtained a license from the Malta Gaming Authority, will affect 1,000 employees.

However, Gibraltar's Gaming Minister Albert Isola slammed the Times of Malta report as fake news. He said that Bet365 “remain totally committed to Gibraltar and the entirety of its workforce here.”
