The Story

Contrary to what its competitors are doing, UK-listed bookmaker Paddy Power Betfair is planning to inject an additional £10m (US$13.53m) into its Australian brand Sportsbet.

Paddy Power said that it is time to be aggressive down under.

The Irish-based company said it is imperative to inject additional capital to Sportsbet now while their competitors are distracted with mergers and takeovers. Despite reporting a revenue drop in Australia, Paddy Power Betfair CEO Peter Jackson expressed confidence about the company’s prospects in the country. Hopefully, Jackson could maintain this positive outlook when two of the biggest betting states in Australia—Victoria and New South Wales—start the implementation of new state-based digital wagering taxes.
