The Story

The Norwegian government is devising new ways of restricting access of its residents to internationally licensed gambling sites.

The government wants to beat the competition of the state-owned monopoly.

Some of the methods that are being proposed by the Lotteri-og Stiftelsestilsynet include the blocking of transactions of unauthorized online gambling operators—which is convenient since state monopolies Norsk Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto are the only operators licensed by the government. This time, banks will stop dealing with companies by name and not through their account number. The gaming authority also wanted to compel the banks to provide transaction information regarding certain companies on demand.
