The Story

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched a probe into why online gambling operators implement unreasonable limits for gamblers to withdraw their funds.

The investigation has targeted an “unspecified number” of operators.

The UK competition watchdog said the probe will center on practices “that may place unfair obstacles in the way of people withdrawing their money (whether as part of a promotion or not).” It also said that some operators have “unreasonably low” daily, weekly or monthly limits on withdrawing funds, “potentially arbitrary short deadlines” for customers to verify their identity when withdrawing funds and potential forfeiture of funds for customers who fail to respond quickly to the operators’ requirements.
