The stats never lie

stats-never-lieArsenal’s Champions League odyssey came to an end in the Nou Camp last night and if you can see past the reams of Tweets and Facebook updates about how they were cheated then it’s easy to realize that the stats don’t lie.

Wenger’s side, which contained “injured” striker Robin van Persie, went down 3-1 and can have the referee to thank for a moment of controversy that saw the Dutchman dismissed.

The sending off was harsh at best, as he received a second booking for kicking the ball a mere second after the whistle had gone, but it masks the fact that Barcelona schooled them in how to play soccer.

The visiting side’s only goal of the night was scored by makeshift home defender Sergio Busquets, meaning that they had no shots. That’s not no shots on target, that’s NO shots at all. If you add this to the miniscule 24% possession and two corners, it all starts to make sense.

It makes you wonder how one player being red carded can be the reason a team was outplayed for the best part of 180 minutes over two games.

Can you imagine if an NFL team had no pass completions, or attempts, for an entire game? The coach, and QB would be strung up without so much as a bottle of Tiger Blood to pacify them.

Granted, it was a valiant effort by Arsenal but you can be an attractive girl in the Miss Universe pageant but if there’s someone who’s infinitely better looking then, however much you bitch, you’re never going to win.
