Clearly, the success of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire has affected the critical faculties of New Jersey state senators. Sure, business is way, way down at Atlantic City casinos, in large measure due to the increased number of casino options available in neighboring states such as Pennsylvania. So who wouldn’t think the solution to restoring black ink to AC’s books is by building more casinos?
The twist on this idea is that these new casinos will be smaller, with a minimum 200 hotel-room capacity (less than half the current 500-room minimum). And because these casinos are smaller, they’ll be cheaper to build, and thus frenzied developers will be crawling over top of one another to dig holes in the Jersey shore in which they can bury their bullion. Hey, developers… We’ve got a decent sized back yard that some gophers have already done a pretty good job of excavating, so if you’re really that eager to bury your booty somewhere…
