With the ninth year of Genting Poker Series events kicking off in February, this year sees the Genting Poker Series go further than ever before. With 16 events taking place up and down the United Kingdom, there are four of the fabled Main Events and 12 Genting Mini Events on offer.
The Genting Poker Series is changing in name this year, at least in terms of marketing. It’ll be promoted as the GentingBet Poker Series, though it’s unlikely that any players refer to it as anything other than ‘The GPS’. With the four Main Events taking place at casinos in Luton, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Birmingham, there will be a £100,000 guarantee in each Main Event.
With the new starting stack of 30,000 chips mimicking the World Series of Poker, The Genting Poker Series will be aiming to attract some of the best of British as well as plenty of grass roots players to make sure they hit those guarantees.
Over the past few years, with many of the U.K.’s biggest events all taking place at Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn thanks to their lucrative partnership with partypoker, other regional British tours have been affected, with the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour and Genting Poker Series operating from the shade by comparison. That is impossible to disguise, but while it would easy to step back from as large a tour, Genting’s pursuit of a larger attendance in encouraging to British poker in general.
It’s not just the GentingBet Poker Series that is travelling far and wide across the British Isles, with the Genting Mini events also hitting every point on the compass.
Genting Mini events will take place at Newcastle, Southend’s Westcliff Casino, Sheffield, Blackpool, Liverpool, Reading, Luton and Torquay with each Mini featuring a £35,000 guaranteed prizepool as well as nine Genting Poker Series Main Event seats being on the line.
Last year saw 3,700 entries take to the GPS tables and 2019 was a smaller series. Every 2020 GPS Main Event will have another Day 1, all of which feature 60 minute blinds and offer plenty of value for the buy-in of £200+£25, less than half the price of the Main Events, which are £450+£50.
As well as the money on offer in the GentingBet Poker Series Main Events, every Main Event player will also automatically be entered into a prize-draws to win a holiday worth £10,000 – a life-changing prize if ever there was one.
The Poker Operations Manager for Genting UK, Kevin Proctor, was clearly delighted with the changes made the GentingBet Poker Series. In a statement, he said:
“The GentingBet Poker Series continues to go from strength to strength with thousands of poker players, new and old, taking part in our Main and Mini events all over the country. We committed to providing our customers with the very best in-casino experience and we are excited to announce the addition of the Super 80 to our series of events. This year we are returning to the South West of England with our events in Plymouth and Torquay. This area of the UK has been without a major poker event for too long and it is great to be able to return.”
If you haven’t heard of the ‘Super 80’, then you’ll want to know about it. With the competition costing just £80 to enter – the clue’s in the title – there’s a prize-pool of £15,000 up for grabs, with the cut-price side event hitting the felt in Stoke in February as well as at later stops such as Blackpool, Reading, Sheffield and Newcastle.
