We’re just a few short weeks away from the NFL playoffs, and the league’s championship hopefuls are vying for position. To see where the smart money landed this past week, we once again checked in with our Bodog insider to see how the house faired.
Biggest Liability
Although Los Angeles doesn’t look like the Super Bowl finalist of last year, they are still very much in contention, and wrecking lines for the house. “The Seahawks closed as -1 favorites against the Rams, a division rival that’s struggled coming off a Super Bowl loss,” our insider noted. “The Rams defense kept Russell Wilson in check and Jared Goff battled through a couple turnovers to ultimately lead LA to victory.”
Lamar Jackson
It’s about the right time to start looking for MVPs and great prop bets, and our insider has his pick in Jackson. “The Ravens improved to 11-2 (with a winning streak of 9-0) and Lamar Jackson joined Michael Vick as the only QB to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season. His O/U for Rushing Yards for the season was 860.”
Let Down
Could Houston possibly keep up the momentum from beating the Pats? Apparently not. “One week removed from beating the Patriots in prime time the Houston Texans laid an egg against a very mediocre Denver Broncos team,” our insider lamented. “Denver came in to Houston as an 8-point underdog and won 38-24. They actually jumped out to a 31-3 lead before Houston made the score look more respectable late.”
Look Ahead
The house will be keeping its eye most closely perhaps on the teams that are hungriest to solidify their playoff entries. “Rams @ Cowboys (no odds available as of publication) and Bills @ Steelers (-1.5),” the insider noted as the games he’s watching. “The Rams are still barely clinging to their playoff hopes after a big win on Sunday Night Football against Seattle and the Cowboys, despite their 6-7 record, control their own destiny in the NFC East.”
Playoffs
Our insider didn’t want to give up a chance at looking at the early playoff picture, and how much some of those teams were weighed correctly by the odds. “With only a few weeks left in the regular season some teams have already clinched their spot in the post-season. The Ravens are in (-135 Yes preseason) as well as the Saints (-350 Yes) while the Browns are all but out (+105 No) and the Rams (+275 No) are still on the outside looking in,” he noted. “The biggest surprise are the 49ers who now have the NFC’s 1 seed and were +230 preseason to make the playoffs.”
