The German star, Manig Loeser, has earned his largest score to date after topping a field of 52 entrants in the HK$1m buy-in Triton Super High Roller Main Event in Montenegro.
It’s been evident for some time now that Manig Loeser had taken his game to the next level. The German star had been slopping around the mid-stakes of the poker community like gin in a glass, but now he can dine on the very best champagne.
Loeser has defeated 52-entrants to win the top prize of HK$16,877,600 ($2.1m) at the HK$1m buy-in Triton Super High Roller Series Main Event in Montenegro. The three-day event attracted a host of stars including partypoker Ambassador Sam Trickett, the Global Poker Index (GPI) Player of the Year (POY), David Peters, and the inimitable Fedor Holz.
The Day 1 attendance register counted 47 entrants, including nine re-entries. 31 players made Day 2, with Wang Qiang from China leading the way, with Loeser sitting in 11th spot.
Five more players re-entered at the start of Day 2, bringing the total number of entrants to 52. It was Loeser who topped the remaining eight players when the day reached its climax, thanks to a dramatic three way all-in on the money bubble that saw Peter Chan, and Loeser chop the former chip leader, Wang Qiang’s stack, after both getting it in with AK against the AQ of Qiang.

Loeser went to work quickly, eliminating the High Rolling Belarusian Mikita Badziakouski AQ>A7, and another German player was next to hold the bloody axe when Sontheimer eliminated Paschalidis JJ>K9.
Sontheimer himself was next to hit the rail when Yong’s ladies melted the hearts of Sontheimer’s snowmen, and Yong was at it again, albeit under fortunate circumstances, when he rivered a straight against the turned two-pair of Chan Wai Leong.
Yong took his third, and most impressive scalp of the final table when he eliminated the Poker Hall of Fame star John Juanda AJ>55 when an ace appeared on the flop. And Loeser entered heads-up against Yong on an even keel after eliminating Peter Chan 77>A9.
Yong had ventured into an early lead before Loeser pulled the difference back. Then the next hand reduced Yong to chip dust.
Loeser raised to 450k on the button, and Yong re-raised to 1.125m; Loeser called. The flop was QdJd2c, Yong moved all-in, and Loeser snap called. Yong showed pocket sevens for the underpair, and Loeser showed QJ for top two pairs. The jack on the turn handed Loeser the boat, and the meaningless eight on the river sealed the hand for the German.
The dealer dealt with the ensuing carnage, and Yong was left with two chips and a chair. Those two chips went into the middle riding on the back of A4, and Loeser found a jack on the flop to seal the most memorable victory of his career holding J2.
