European Parliament member, and former pro poker player, Tony G, has challenged the United Kingdom Independence Party leader, Nigel Farage, to a £1m charitable Brexit bet.
Politics? I’m a Linda Ronstadt lyric – I don’t know much. When people talk about the left and right wings, I think about Ryan Giggs and David Beckham. When I hear the term Brexit, it sounds like a theme park owned by Lego.
My wife says I should learn more about politics and today I feel like a bit of a mug for not listening. On Thursday, the people of the UK will vote on whether or not they should remain in the European Union (EU), and I 
haven’t registered to vote.
I would have voted ‘REMAIN’. Nigel Farage, the UK Independence Party (UKIP) Leader, and a member of the European Parliament for South East England, posted a video of him betting £1,000 on ‘LEAVE’ in Ladbrokes.
Farage wants Britain to go it alone. And that’s not the sentiments echoed by the very vocal voice of another member of the European Parliament; Tony G. The G-Meister General has asked Farage to up the ante.
How about £1m, with the money going to charity?
I can hear Farage gulping in air from across the pond.
Tony G, who campaigns for EU reform, but would prefer that change included the UK, pointed to the benefit a UK-less EU would have on Russia as an important reason the UK should stay put.
I was recently at the book launch of Freedom: The End of the Human Condition by the Australian biologist Jeremy Griffith. The launch was at the Royal Geographical Society in London, and Sir Bob Geldof was the keynote speaker.
During his speech Sir Bob said, “Should Britain be the thread, the loose thread, that pulls on the EU cardigan, then, believe me, my view is, that sooner rather than later we will find ourselves in some sort of conflict again.”
And this was after Sir Bob had told us that never before in his 64-years on this planet had he ever found the ‘world more threatening, more fractious, more fissiparous, more febrile, more fucked up than it is now.”
It’s the mention of the word ‘conflict’ that piques my interest. I don’t want either of my children to have to live in a time of war, and to be honest; I would rather avoid a missile landing on my head myself.
Tony G believes the betting odds are a ‘much more reliable indicator of what is going to happen than the traditional polls’ and on his Tonybet.com ‘Political Betting Section’ a REMAIN vote is favourite at 25, with 13/5 for LEAVE.
If you want to have a punt on the outcome of the EU Referendum, then Tonybet isn’t a bad place to put your money. The team are offering odds up until 7 pm UK time on Thursday night, and if the vote does fall in favour of the UK leaving the EU, then they will refund all losing bets up to a max of £20 per bet.
They will also be offering in-play betting during polling day.
