Angelia Ong talks to Lacey Jones, known to many as the Poker Barbie. She shares what she has been doing in the Philippines. She said she is also here for Solaire Cares to raise money for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban and for local charities in Manila.
When ESPN hired models to add some glamour to a poker tournament in 2005, they were not expecting one of them to be battling it out for the final table.
Lacey’s performance in the ESPN tournament didn’t go unnoticed and soon she was taking lessons and advice from other professionals in order to improve her own game. Her advice for people in a similar position is: “Practice as much as you can, see a lot of hands, read books and follow players you feel are most like the player you want to become. Number one rule: never give up!”
While off screen, Lacey is keen to share her passion for poker and is currently working on her charity for US troops.
She recently visited the Philippines for Operation Hoops Cares, a goodwill mission to the Natural Disaster Sites, a journey of events established in New York across the United States and eventually landing in the Philippines.
Another charity event Solaire Cares also invited international poker celebrities and professional players not just to play the game, but also to be part of a good cause.
Lacey Jones has help raise funds for the victims of typhoon Haiyan in Tacloban, Leyte thru a charity game.
Jones was playing World Poker Tour in China when the typhoon hit the Philippines.
“Going there and seeing the devastation and a year later, people are still living in tent but i was actually playing World Poker Tour in China last year when the hurricane came through and it also hit us but not that bad at all but seeing it in the news watching the devastation, there is just something that i felt like i had to do something.” Jones said.
