If I was searching for the classic Chris Moorman quote it would look something like this: –
“I have just bust this One Drop thing. I didn’t play yesterday but I done three bullets in today. I got up to 15k with my third bullet. The plan was to play tight, as the table was going crazy, and I have just three barreled it all off with nine high.”
I call it the classic quiet comedy of Chris Moorman, and I love it.
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been a happy stomping ground for Chris Moorman. Back in 2011, when everyone was questioning whether he could bring his silky online skills to the live felt, he took home over $2 million in live tournament earnings that included two runner-up finishes and a third in WSOP events. It was a two-finger salute if ever I saw one.
So when he made the final table of Event #45: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em (NLHE) Ante Only, I had my fingers crossed for the lad. Moorman even went out and bought himself a nice looking jacket. He looked the part and played the part. But once again he had to settle for a decent wedge, when all he wanted was for his photo to be taken whilst holding a bit of bling.
“I was below average and obviously needed to run good. Then I had a huge stroke of fortune when I got lucky with threes versus jacks, when I hit a three on the turn…I think? Later, when we were six-handed, I was the chip leader; but I lost a few unfortunate hands and ended up blinding out which was the worse thing ever…I’d rather just donk it off.”
Moorman took fifth spot for $44,227 and I wondered if this habit of coming up short was affecting his mood. Was I going to miss the classic quiet comedy?
“At least I am coming second or third instead of eighth or ninth. A couple of the heads-up matches have been against some great players and so it was always going to be a flip anyway. I know it’ll happen one day.”
He’s right as well. When you are as good as Chris Moorman and you play as much as Chris Moorman then it is only a matter of time. So no worries then?
“Well I was a little bit worried, so I looked online to see how many firsts and seconds that I have had when playing online. I have had 210 firsts and 130 seconds so I don’t think it’s down to terrible heads-up play. I just think once I close one out it’ll be the first of many. Well at least I hope so.”
I don’t think it has anything to do with hope. It’s all in the triple barrel bluff with nine high.
