For the first time since 2010, the Asian Poker Tour has brought their high-quality brand of poker to the bright lights of Macau with the official opening of the Asian Poker Tour Macau 2012. The week-long poker festival officially opened yesterday, July 25, and will last until July 31, promising what we expect to be an eventful week of high-caliber felt action.
Proving that Macau has established a reputation as Asia’s pre-eminent gambling destination, the first day of the poker festival already saw plenty of fireworks, highlighted by Gordon Huntly taking down APT Macau’s very first tournament, the Heads Up Asian Championship.
With a field totaling 58 players and included notable names like Michael Marvanek, Samad Razavi, Mark Rivera, Winfred Yu and Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, the Scottish Huntly who currently lives in Thailand bested the entire field, finishing off Sun Seonghyun to win his first APT title and princely first place prize of HKD$109,900 from the HKD$ 274,000 total prize pool.
For the runner-up, Seonghyun took home an impressive HKD$ 54,900, providing the kind of good start that could lead to more winnings in the coming days. As for Huntly, his time at the tournament series couldn’t have gone to a better start. One tournament down, and one title in the bag. We’ll keep an eye out on this guy the rest of the way because he’s probably not done cashing in on other tournaments.
With the first day in the books, APT Macau 2012 heads into the second day with even more tournaments in store, including the HKD $100,000 buy-in PokerAce High Rollers, the HKD $4,400 buy-in Head Hunter, and the HKD $1,000 buy-in Add On for Charity.
More importantly, Day 1A of the HKD $25,000 Main Eventalso kicked-off today. Rest assured, we’ll have updates on the leader board after Day 1 A concludes.
