On July 4, Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd announced that they would be providing a special pay award to non-executive employees of the company. This summer award would be equivalent to one month’s salary. This made the casino operator the fourth operation in Macau to offer a summer bonus to employees.

According to the company, it will be provided to employees on August 30 and be made available to all Galaxy employees who were with the organization prior to June 3 and joined after September 3, 2018.

In a statement provided by the company, they explained, “Galaxy Entertainment Group has always considered its team members to be valuable assets, and encourages them to continue delivering Asian Heart services to enhance customers experience and striving alongside Entertainment Group to reach greater success in the years ahead.”

That Galaxy is providing this kind of bonus should not be a surprise. In January, they announced that they had joined three other casinos in offering a winter bonus to eligible employees. This bonus was provided to all those at the senior management level or below and was the company’s way of thanking their employees for helping to produce a good financial year for the company despite gaming revenue being down near the end of 2018.

“Although the gaming revenue has slowed down in recent months amid increased competition with newly opened properties, Galaxy Entertainment achieved a solid result overall last year,” the company explained in a statement in January.

The same system used in the winter bonuses will be used in the summer. All employees at the senior management level or below will receive the summer bonus, which accounts for about 99% of all employees.

Earlier this week, the Sands China Ltd announced that they would be providing summer bonuses to their employees that would be paid on August 30. This was described by the company as a “one-time special award.” SJM Holdings Ltd and Wynn Macau Ltd had announced last week that they would be providing a special bonus to eligible employees. Wynn Macau will payout their bonus on August 1.

It’s become routine for Galaxy to announce bonuses after the other three operators. This is what occurred in January, leaving the company to look like they are only providing bonuses because the other three casino operators have. This may become a public relations nightmare for the company, as they may be perceived as a company that only awards bonuses grudgingly.
