The partypoker LIVE MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona is off to a great start with 88-entrants ensuring the €2m GTD €25,000 runs swimmingly, and Andreas Eiler takes home the €700,000 first prize.
If partypoker is going to become the king of the live tournament jungle they need to sink teeth into the necks of the most celebrated players in the world. They need to build a big bad brood, and an event like partypoker LIVE Grand MILLIONS Barcelona becomes a crucial breeding ground.
Yes, the beating heart of the live tournament consists of the teeming schools of fish, but it’s those that compete in the high stakes echelons that act as the sparkling lure in these things.
If the Grand Final goes well, and these superstars feel well looked after, who knows, they may call this brand ‘home?’
They will have four stabs at it, the first of which is already an afterthought.
Event #2: €25,000, €2m GTD High Roller attracted 88 entrants, meeting the guarantee, and Andreas Eiler went wire-to-wire to earn himself €700,000 after beating his fellow countryman, Rainer Kempe in a short heads-up match.
If the name sounds familiar, it should. Eiler lost to Dominik Nitsche in the heads-up phase of the €111,111 Big One for One Drop High Roller at the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) for €2.1m in November. It’s Eiler’s second €25k title, although he only had to beat 17-players the last time he won one, back in 2012 at the King’s Casino in Rozvadov.
Here are the primary bullet points:
David Peters bubbled the event.
The final table housed three Americans, two Germans, two Spaniards, a Canadian and a Turk. Kristen Bicknell was the lone partypoker Ambassador to make the final table. The Global Poker Index (GPI) Female #1 followed up her incredible performances at the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) in Macau where she won a High Roller and placed fourth in a second for a combined haul of close to $450,000 with an eighth-place finish in this one.
The GPI #1 male was also on the final table. Adrian Mateos finished fourth. And the in-form Alex Foxen made another final table finishing in seventh. Foxen was fresh off a near million dollar score at APPT Macau. Erik Seidel (third), and Byron Kaverman (6th) also made deep runs.
