September has just started and sports fans all over the world are already in a roller coaster sports ride with the opening of the National Football League and the FIFA qualifiers.
Capping the busy sports week is no other than the heart-pumping, testosterone induced Ultimate Fighting Championship where heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic will put his belt on the line for the first time since he defeated Fabricio Werdum. He will be facing Alistair Overeem at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena.
Sportsbook Bodog said that Miocic is the clear pick of UFC fans to win the main event with -150 odds or 2/3 odds of retaining his belt. Overeem, meanwhile, have +120 or 6/5 odds of defeating Miocic.
UFC say it is 66/1 chance that the match between Overeem, which has won four consecutive fights, and Miocic will end in a draw. They think Miocic will win against Overeem from the inside distance (5/6).
Other betting favorite in Saturday’s UFC match is Werdum, who is now on the hunt for a belt after his knock-out loss to Miocic. He will be facing Travis Browne, whom he defeated by unanimous decision two and a half years ago.
Bodog lists Werdum as a -225 (4/9) favorite against Browne (+175 or 7/4).
Meanwhile, mixed martial arts fans will also be in for a treat as they will see former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar C.M. Punk step in the octagon ring for the first time since he left his career as a professional wrestler and officially signed with the UFC nearly two years ago.
Punk is debuting in the UFC as heavy underdog with a +300 or 3/1 odds of winning against welterweight Mickey Gall with -400 or 1/4.
Still, Punk told FOX Sports that he can get the victory before the end of the third and final round.
“I definitely see myself winning and if I had to pick, I’d say TKO,” he said.
