Brad Garret’s Maximum Hope Foundation teams up with the Charity Series of Poker and the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open to raise funds for families who care for children suffering from life-limiting illnesses.
Nathalie Himmelrich, who had to deal with the grief of the death of one of her twin daughters aged just three days old once said, “We do not have control over many things in life and death, but we do have control over the meaning we give it.”
The comedian and actor Brad Garrett understands this quote more than most after witnessing family friends losing an 11-year old boy after a fight against cancer.
The ‘meaning’ that presented itself for Garrett was to create the Maximum Hope Foundation (named after his two children Max and Hope) to help families cope with the issues that arise when caring for a child with a life-limiting illness.
“We are a helping hand and open arms, bringing compassion, relief and peace of mind to those who need it most.” Said Garrett.
Poker and Charity
Brad Garrett loves poker, and poker loves helping charitable causes.
Raising for Effective Giving (REG) promotes altruism throughout the poker community. The ONE DROP Foundation and the World Series of Poker (WSOP) have raised millions thanks to events like the Big One for ONE DROP, the ONE DROP High Roller, and The Little One for ONE DROP; and most of the major tournament organisers have some form of relationship with a non-profit organisation.
One of these foundations is the Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) created by Matt Stout as a way to use poker tournaments as a vehicle to benefit charities such as Three Square Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
For the third consecutive year, the CSOP will be making an appearance at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO), at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, FL, and this time they are teaming up with Garrett to raise funds for the Maximum Hope Foundation.
The $300 buy-in event will take place Fri, Aug 12. The fun and frolics begin at 5 pm with a player’s party at the L Bar, inside the hotel. Live music, cocktails, and expensive looking snacks will be the order of the day, as well as an opportunity to win more than $30,000 in prizes as well as a seat into the SHRPO $5m Guaranteed Main Event.
The tournament begins at 7 pm. Brad Garrett will play. $140 of the buy-in will go towards the Maximum Hope Foundation.

The CSOP event is only a part of a much bigger picture.

The Poker Night in America (PNIA) TV crew will also film the Big 4 and will air during Season 5 of PNIA on the CBS Sports Network. The Big 4 contains $7.5m in guarantees.
